Volunteer with Editors Toronto

Editors Canada has a strong core of volunteers at both the national and branch levels. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to build your résumé, network with fellow editors, and develop new skills.

Editors Toronto depends on volunteers, and we have a range of volunteer opportunities for our members. Some, like executive positions, are for fixed terms. Others are of a shorter duration and even ad hoc. We are looking for recruits ranging from writers for BoldFace to greeters for in-person events.

For more details about volunteering with Editors Canada, please see the national volunteer policy.

Call for volunteers

Please take some time to read through our volunteer opportunities. If you’re interested in any of them, contact the appropriate chair highlighted below. If you don’t see the volunteer opportunity you’re looking for, contact the Editors Toronto vice-chair to get more information on how you can get involved.

Editors Toronto executive committee

The Editors Toronto executive committee is elected in May at the branch Annual General Meeting. Nominees for the next executive committee are recruited throughout the year.

For more information about volunteering as a member of the executive committee, contact the Editors Toronto co-chairs.

BoldFace: Editors Toronto blog

Build your skills as a copy editor by working with our BoldFace editor-in-chief to polish our monthly submissions. Every copy editor receives written credit on each article they work on.

Article writer
Copy editors are always welcome, but it’s writers who keep the branch blog vibrant and relevant. Get in touch with the BoldFace editor-in-chief to pitch an article on a relevant and timely topic. Learn more.

Events writer
Give fellow members who couldn’t make it to the meeting insights into the program by writing a recap article for BoldFace.

For more information about volunteering for BoldFace, contact the editor-in-chief.

The Word On The Street Toronto festival (WOTS)

Volunteer for a shift to help manage our booth at WOTS. Engage the public about Editors Toronto, Editors Canada, and the editing profession more generally, and create fun memories with other Editors Toronto members and local writers and book lovers.

For more information about volunteering at WOTS, contact the Editors Toronto vice-chair.

Other opportunities

Occasionally we require additional assistance for special events. This may include greeting and orienting registrants at in-person events. Our vice-chair sends out a call to members when we need additional volunteers. Get involved with your local branch. We’d love to have you!
